The minimum requirements include:

• Desktop server - 1.0GHz processor, 512MB RAM, 40GB HDD, WiFi 802.11g
• Microsoft Windows© 2000, or Windows© XP Pro version.
• Tablet client - 1.0GHz "centrino" based processor, 256MB RAM, 20GB HDD, WiFi 802.11g
• 12" screen, Windows© XP Tablet PC version.

(note: these are the minimum for everyday use with a front office person, for other use or test use the the minimum requirements can be as low as a single 1.0 GHz Tablet PC or a laptop with Windows© 2000 (no handwriting). Be aware that running Medscribbler in these conditions while possible is not an optimum use of Medscribbler)

To use any version of Medscribbler to the fullest additional software may be required. All versions require scanning software to import scanned paper documents, most scanners come with this software included. Medscribbler requires fax software for faxing. Fax software is included with modems and Microsoft Windows XP©.

Medscribbler Clinic Pro requires Microsoft SQL Server.

EZclaim© billing software is included with all versions but Lite which is by separate purchase from EZclaim©.

All Medscribbler versions include most other practice management functions.

Medscribbler will work on any XP or 2000 computer but only the Tablet PC will let you use handwriting. This is the first EMR designed for handwriting so without understanding how it works on a Tablet PC may make you wonder about some of the design options.

Some older or cheaper computers have missing components but we include them to upgrade your computer.

You can use the keyboard or voice and even draw with a mouse on non Tablet PCs.

Medscribler is not an internet based EMR. It is not an ASP (application service provider) program, as a result you have complete control of your files and do not have to worry about DSL or broadband companies viability or even the viability of the ASP company storing your patient records. Medscribbler is yours, you control it and the patient record at your office with no middlemen! But, Medscribbler can use the internet to give you secure anywhere access by a VPN (separate local IT set-up).

The minimum recommended system for a single provider is:

• a Windows XP Pro desktop (as server)
• Two Tablet PCs with an extra battery and a charger, extra pens (see FAQ about which Tablet PC)
• backup software and system for external backups
• Two Windows 2000 or XP desktops (for clerical staff and for a provider at their desk)
• A fax service like MYfax. A modem, telephone line and fax software as an alternative.
• A standalone scanner with a feeder (not a multi-purpose machine that is also used as a main printer)
• A local network with wireless.
• Two printers, a lazer for letters and another cheaper, small footprint one for printing prescriptions
