Medscribbler Open Source

Electronic Medical Record at no cost

An EMR for the Tablet PC

Medscribbler Lite has been renamed Medscribbler Community and has been released as an open source EMR. For more information, visit the project's homepage at Sourceforge: http://medscribbler.sourceforge.net/

A FREE EMR that is fully implemented, Lite features embedded and direct handwriting and handwriting recognition into the computerized medical record. This was the first EMR system with this handwriting recognition capability. As a free EMR Lite still is complete with scheduling, progress notes, a billing interface and patient management of allegies, medications, problems and other demographics. (see demos)

Speed using a Tablet PC is the number one consideration by allowing various input options: handwriting for standing by the exam table, handwriting conversion for quick entry of information for broader review, keyboard for sit down situations and voice recognition for those who like to dictate.

This HIPAA solution EMR system's only limitation is the number of users being limited to two doctors or nurses and two clerical staff (receptionists or billing). Medscribbler Open Source is a client server application meant to operate in a multi-computer environment with Tablet PCs and a wireless WiFI network. It is possible to set-up muti-locations and home access with simple, cheap off the shelf routers. The basic database is the stable Microsoft© MSDE so upgrading can be accomplished easily with Microsoft© SQL Server or a higher product version of the Medscribbler EMR system.

Other key system features of this FREE EMR are: demographic import from other electronic medical records, interoffice messaging, medical document management (scanner required), prescription writer with one click refills, handwriting of electronic forms, medical histories tracking, automatic backups, HIPAA solution logging, desktop faxing (third party set-up required) and a billing "cut and paste" interface to almost all billing programs or an interactive interface to Ezclaim billing (separate purchase required.)

There are no "strings attached" with Lite, no seperate modules to buy to make it a full EMR, no limitations in time with an expiry date, no limitations on the number of patients and no features disabled. No requirements to have salesmen call or visit. We do hope that when you see what this free EMR can do on a Tablet PC you will want the commercial versions of Medscribbler that are jammed pack with features and functions to "get you there sooner." Lite is featured on emrupdate.com in their free software section.
