Frequently Asked Questions - EMR FAQs
Hardware, Software and Procedure Topics
Welcome to the Medscribbler FAQs page. Here there is a list of "frequently asked questions" pertaining to the Medscribbler EMR features, benefits and procedures. You will also discover FAQs concerning current Tablet PC technology. Be sure to visit our "Learn about Tablets" link at the bottom of the page for Tablet PC introductory information. An often unasked question should be the starting point of installing Medscribbler:
- » Where can I get help file?
-
Help files are included on the installation CDs for purchased product. The Help files for Medscribbler Open Source are through a link in the download email. Bookmark the links for future use.
- » I am getting a message saying I have 3 minutes before Medscribbler closes.
-
Medscribbler uses client server by concurrent user. This means that it doesn`t matter what computer an user logs on with but the total number of users in the whole EMR system which can not exceed the total paid for or permitted. Also the number of users in the EMR system doesn't matter only the number logged on at one time.
For example, in Lite, 10 more doctors can be added as clinical users. The default doctor user can use any of the other doctors' 10 Tablet PC or any of the 15 exam room desktops in the EMR system. But Medscribbler Open Source is limited to 2 clinical (physician users) so when 3 physician (clinical) users are logged on at the same time a message will appear on the last one saying they have 3 minutes before Medscribbler closes.
Three minutes was given so in a pinch a quick prescription or chart note could be done without forcing an expensive upgrade or a lot of extra walking to close computers for the occassional use. This will also occur if a physician logs on several times on separate computers, each log on is a user.
The message is a function of Medscribbler user licensing and may be solved by one of the following:
- Reboot the computer after the installation.
- Make sure your network is working to speed reliably (contact your IT person).
- Buy more users licenses.
- Understand "concurrent users" and log off extra users.
- Make sure a firewall is not blocking Medscribbler (see the installation readme and contact your IT person).
- » How do I convert handwriting to text?
-
There are two ways to convert handwriting to text:
- The first way is to set the progress note to "text". This will convert handwriting to text in real time.
- The second method is to leave the handwriting as is in the progress note area but "flag" it for conversion via transcription when you exit the patients chart.
- » When I try to log on for the first time, I get a database error.
-
These errors are caused by:
- firewalls
- virus protection software
- no network connection
- problematic operating systems
- or an incomplete installation
Each of these situations is covered in the readme and help files. Make sure all Medscribbler components have been installed.
